The reason why people don't respond to cold emails

Proma Nautiyal

Hi there,

How many times have you received shameless plugins from businesses in your inbox? I guess plenty…

There’s a reason why cold emails are loathed by professionals across industries. They just seem like lost mail that have somehow landed up at your doorstep. 📦

Worse still, if you mistakenly open the mail, you are blasted by a lot of content, bullet points, and why you should be choosing the sender above everyone else whether you want it or not.

And this is exactly what is wrong when it comes to sending cold emails. As a marketer it is our responsibility to be very specific about the people whom we are shooting these emails to.

Here are some questions you should ask yourself before crafting and sending out cold emails.

  1. Are they the right people?

  2. Do they really need what we are offering?

  3. Are they actively looking for the particular offering?

  4. How can the offering improve their current situation?

  5. What is something that would motivate them to use this offering?

All you need are clear answers to these 5 questions.

This is what the answers should look like:

  1. Are they the right people? - Yes

  2. Do they really need what we are offering? -Yes

  3. Are they actively looking for the particular offering? - Yes/Maybe

  4. How can the offering improve their current situation? - Better savings, reduced costs, more time to focus on core product, etc.

  5. What is something that would motivate them to use this offering? - Highlight the pain points they are facing and how they can be alleviated (do not talk about your product or service features here, but more of a general method of how these issues can be tackled)

The thing is, a lot is shared between the lines. People do read between the lines and they are intelligent enough to figure things out themselves. We need to respect that intelligence and craft our communication likewise.

The first impression in most cases is indeed the last impression, so we need to make the most of it, be it as a marketer, an entrepreneur, or just as an individual.

However, does it really matter if people like you or not? 🤔 Guess I have already found the material for my next newsletter.

Stay hooked!

Cheers,

Proma
