Would you risk it?
Proma Nautiyal
Hey there,
Happy Friday, to you!
Although Fridays are the time to chill with not a care in the world, when have I ever gone by the rules? So, we will talk about risks, thrill, adrenaline, and fear today.
I keep seeing a lot of tweets and articles about why people are risk-averse and wonder, what’s wrong with being risk-averse. Isn’t it just human to want to stay away from hot water?
But then again, is it so easy to box individuals into simple boxes tagged risker-averse and risk-lover and leave it at that?
I, for one, am a person who is risk-averse when it comes to financial markets. I would like to play it safe and ensure I bet on the blue chips and MFs which are known to be the safe bets. BUT, I am also the person who will say yes to new projects or make a swift career jump, just because I don’t know what lies at the other end. But then again, I wouldn’t want to jump off a plane (skydive) even to save my life.
Whether or not a person is risk-averse or is a constant risk-taker would depend a lot on their circumstances, risk appetite, and whether they are a promotion-focused or prevention-focused person. But hey, once again, you cannot really box people up. There will always be grey areas. There will be overlaps.
So this weekend I invite you to do some soul searching. Find out who you are actually. What constitutes a “No-way” risk and a “huh-okay” risk to you? In principle, a person who understands themselves really well is way better equipped to make informed decisions. It sure has helped me…
I hope you liked this serving of Magical Margarita this week. See you in the next with some awesome concoctions.
Until then, be well, stay safe.
Cheers,
Proma
