Social Media Updates This Week
The newsletter that keeps you up to date without adding more to your plate

In this issue:
1. What’s happening in the world of social media that you should absolutely know
2. Featured resources this week
3. Must read articles that will add an edge to your career and brand
Hey there, 👋🏼
I know it has been. while, a couple of months to be exact since you last heard from me. Seems like it was not just the social media platforms that were going through an algorithm change but my life, as well.
While I contemplated whether I would like to continue DigiWitch or go full in into my spiritual venture, Purrple Mystic, I realised I needed to give my new business 100% attention and closed down DigiWitch operations for a while.
And then it happened, I realised how much I love marketing and how much I was missing it. Also, my clients wanted me to come back and manage their accounts and do consultations like before. Truth be told, I had missed the dynamism of marketing, too, a bit and I took this as a sign that maybe I am supposed to do both.
And so, I am back. I have now decided to work with a group of founders, coaches, and consultants who need to make space for themselves, grow their brand’s footprint, and make a mark for the work they have been doing.
The weekly marketing updates and the resources at the end are just a start. The tip of the iceberg. This is just to keep you acquainted with the dynamic world of marketing as you grow your business. Things that you need to do or remember while creating content for social media platforms.
The idea is not to get blindsided. You won’t be getting a ton of case studies to go through, but actual tips that you can follow to grow your viewership and presence.
So without further ado, let’s get started.
YouTube adds new 'Hype' options, members-only content filters
YouTube’s rolling out a new way to help promote rising creators, while it’s also got a new filter option for channels, in order to help paying users find the content that they’ve paid for in the app.
First off, YouTube’s adding a new option to its “Hype” program which will enable users who’ve given Hype to a clip to then highlight that video in a separate post.
YouTube’s Hype program enables users to help promote eligible videos by allocating them Hype points, which then sees those videos gain more exposure in the app.
LinkedIn adds AI-powered people search experience
LinkedIn today introduced the launch of AI-powered people search, a new way to make finding the right person easier than ever. Now, to find people on LinkedIn you can now simply type what you’re looking for in plain language. Want to find “someone who’s grown a small business” or “an expert in digital marketing”? Just ask, and LinkedIn will surface the most relevant people.
Meta is retiring its like and comment buttons for third-party websites
“On February 10, the plugins will gracefully degrade by rendering as a 0x0 pixel (invisible element) rather than causing errors or breaking your website functionality. This change is intended to only remove the plugin content from your site, and should not otherwise impact your website’s functionality.”
So no impact, and no change required from web managers, the buttons will simply stop working and disappear from view.
Meta says that it’s retiring these options because their usage “has naturally declined as the digital landscape has evolved.”
Threads Adds Podcast Promotion Tools
Threads is testing out a new podcast integration, which will enable you to add your podcast details to your profile in the app, which will then populate previews of your show when shared in Threads posts, via a custom thumbnail image and link.
